What the scam says

Your caller ID shows a familiar number (your bank, the IRS, the SSA). The caller claims there is an urgent problem. They ask for personal information, a one-time code, or payment. In SMS phishing (smishing): a text from an official-looking number contains a link to a credential-harvesting page.
