What the scam says
Mail piece with perforated edges (like an official document) reads: 'INFORMATION FOR THE MORTGAGEE ONLY. Allocated Waiver — $199.00. This notice is time sensitive. Call (888) 801-8190 immediately or we will revoke the allocated waiver.' References an old mortgage lender (often one that was sold or dissolved years ago). Bottom of the fake-check portion reads 'This is not a check.'
4 red flags
Uses old mortgage lender names (Hudson City Bank, Quicken Loans) that no longer exist under those names
Mailed from Boca Raton, FL zip code 33431 — reported consistently across hundreds of recipients
Caller uses pressure tactics: 'This deal is only good right now', 'You cannot confer with your spouse'
No company name, no address, no website, no signed name on the mailer — untraceable by design
What to do
